Flotilla for Takayna - Maytim / Arthur River

Along Maytim/Arthur River in Takayna / Tarkine rainforest in Lutruwita/Tasmania, one of Australia's largest temperate rainforests, a different kind of revolution is taking place. People gather together this weekend for a peaceful flotilla on Matyim / Arthur River, to raise awareness of current logging at the confluence of the Frankland and Arthur rivers in Takayna, and work to protect this ancient rainforest from destruction. An ongoing battle, passionate activists of all ages, come together to protect this wilderness from logging and mining companies.

Thunder rolls across the valley
Birds announce the coming rain
Swaying trees herald a warning
A storm is gathering again

Drifting mist in towering forests
Middens line these restless shores
In a world that's fully living
Rivers running through folklore

Takayna
May your nature still remain
Takayna
For the sacred you contain
May your nature and your mystery still remain

We were made out of this country
From the stories and the songs
Forever here in reverence
We knew the right way to belong

But the ravagers would come
They would have you bought and sold
With dreams of industry and empire
And a fool's pursuit of gold

Takayna
May your nature still remain
Takayna
For the sacred you contain
May your nature and your mystery still remain

You are the air we breathe
The water of life
You embody all the deeper things
That we can't define

We will come
We will go
In a string of precious moments
Until the letting go

Water beads upon a new leaf
Wedge tails spiral on the breeze
May you stay this way forever
Full of awe and majesty
Chain of life
Come down millions of years
May we leave you as we found you
Without the haunting fears

Takayna
May your nature still remain
Takayna
For the sacred you contain

Takayna
May your nature still remain
Takayna
For the sacred you contain
May your nature and your mystery still remain

May your nature and your mystery still remain
