A touch of Autumn

April 6, 2025.

wulinantikala / Cradle Mountain.

Autumn has arrived and with it a cold wet windy weekend with a dusting of snow in the mornings at higher elevation was reported. Momentarily finding cover from the elements, traces of autumn color changes and some flow, in an almost forgotten mystical oasis among what I consider some the most unique of forest patches left protected, just steps away from the hoards of crowds that descend daily into and around Cradle Mountain National Park. For some moments, peace and quiet as the running stream in full flow mesmerises my attention.. time stands still almost as a walking meditation, pausing to capture a scene that speaks to my mind’s eye. Not moments earlier I was feeling (and feared) that I had lost my mojo for photography again, maybe more missing these kinds of outings.. yet nature often brings me back into the present..out of my head, worries cast aside. The water in full flow drowning all else out. Without tripod as left it in Jimny for this ‘short walk’, camera and hands with natural props held as steady as could be.. Presence, fresh air, immersed in a storybook of nature’s surroundings, taking notice of everything, curious about everything around me.. it starts to come back.. while imperfectly perfect, some shakiness, some not-in-best-focus, it’s okay..
